Sean and Katherine’s Dream Home: Transformed with Bespoke Joinery
We are increasingly being asked to deliver multiple bespoke joinery projects throughout homes, in some cases we’re installing pieces in almost every room- is there a better testament to our work, or a more rewarding way for us to be involved? We don’t think so!
Being trusted by clients to deliver project after project means the world to us, and building on our relationships as longer-term projects develop enables us to understand the needs and taste of our clients even more- which, of course, brings the greatest results.
This project exemplifies this…
When Sean and Katherine reached out to us, their new build was still under construction. Despite the blank canvas, they had a strong vision for how they wanted their first home together to feel – warm, personal, and tailored to their passions. From a custom vinyl storage wall to a multifunctional home office, we worked closely with them over several months to create beautiful, functional spaces that reflect their unique style.
The Vinyl Storage Wall – A 15-Year
Dream Realised
Sean is a passionate vinyl collector, with a collection of 1,800 to 2,000 records. For years, he dreamed of owning a piece of furniture that would proudly display and store his collection. Inspired by a design featuring a folding display shelf, Sean wondered if it was possible to combine discreet storage with a rotating showcase of his favourite album covers.
We brought this vision to life using rich walnut veneer with spray-painted elements to complement their kitchen. The result is a stunning media wall, comprising thirty sections for vinyl storage. Each fold-down flap allows Sean to easily swap out records on display, adding a constantly changing artistic focal point. To add a deeply personal touch, we laser-etched every flap with logos from Sean’s favourite bands, making it a conversation piece in their main living area.
The Media Cabinet
In the same space, we designed a media cabinet with practical yet elegant features. Finished in a deep indigo blue with mitred corners and ribbed oak doors, it makes a bold statement. Floating without legs, the cabinet is visually striking and maximises floor space. Special vinyl slots on top mimic the browsing experience of a record store, letting Sean flick through both 12-inch and 7-inch records.
Open shelving showcases his favourite albums while closed storage conceals audio equipment and unsightly cables. We also added bespoke flaps to hide sockets, making it easy to access wiring when necessary. With a sleek, streamlined design, it’s the perfect backdrop for their large television.
The Bookcase
With the media centre complete, Sean and Katherine decided to extend the aesthetic to a matching bookcase. Using the same indigo blue finish and ribbed oak backing, we designed a floating wall-mounted unit with dimmable warm lighting, activated by a wave sensor. The cohesive design ensures their living space flows effortlessly, with every element thoughtfully considered.

Home Office – A Space for Productivity
Running a business from home means Sean needed an inspiring yet functional workspace. We created a spacious solid walnut desk, comfortably seating both Sean and Katherine. Above the desk, a bespoke shelving unit with a reed green finish and walnut accents provides both storage and ambient lighting. Motion-activated, the lighting adds warmth during evening work sessions.
To further maximise the room’s versatility, we crafted a custom window seat with hidden storage beneath the cushion. This inviting nook is ideal for reading and taking work breaks, adding another layer of practicality and comfort.
Cloakroom
In their cloakroom, functionality and fun collided. For their beloved Brompton bikes, we created a custom storage solution that keeps the bikes neatly tucked away, complete with motion-activated lighting and a drawer for accessories. On the opposite wall, we brought Katherine’s creative vision to life with a totem-pole-style shoe storage unit. Based on her initial drawings and ambitions for the space, we developed the design and carefully worked around tricky electrical hardware and pipe boxing already in place- to align with the visual ambition of Katherine’s design and also enabling plenty of storage for a variety of shoe styles.
Crafted in bold orange – Sean’s favourite colour – and paired with walnut finishes, this playful yet practical design adds a burst of energy to the space. With concealed compartments and a place for every shoe, it’s a prime example of how we turn even the most practical spaces into design features.
A Collaborative Journey
Throughout this project, collaboration was key. From our initial site survey while the home was still under construction to our final installation, Sean and Katherine were actively involved in the design process of their bespoke joinery. They embraced our suggestions, asked thoughtful questions, and trusted us to push creative boundaries. They also quickly saw the value of our design-led process. While they had originally hoped for a quick installation, they found real joy in refining and personalising each design, ensuring every element met their needs perfectly.
Bringing it All to Life
For us at Bespoke Spaces, this project was an absolute pleasure. From seeing Sean’s excitement as his vinyl wall came to life to the satisfaction of solving complex storage challenges, we couldn’t be prouder of the results. Each visit to the house was greeted with fantastic music, the sound of records spinning, and the joy of witnessing our creations in use. It’s these moments – when passion is mixed with function – that make what we do so rewarding. It’s easy to make things look nice… but delivering projects that add meaningful value is what we are all about- how our pieces help your life, solve a problem or make you feel is where the real benefit is found.
